Department of Aerospace Engineering junior Pedro Salazar Garcia received an honorable mention in the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) 2021 Distinguished Undergraduate Awards.
The honorable mentions were selected from 96 applicants, from 48 universities, by a review panel consisting of faculty at USRA’s member institutions and recipients are noteworthy for their accomplishments and leadership. See the full list of awardees and honorable mentions.
Garcia attended Des Moines Area Community College before transferring to Iowa State. He has been conducting undergraduate research work in the development of electrochemical sensors and the development of a dense airspace simulation, evaluating different operating environments for future advanced aircraft.
He plans to pursue a doctoral degree, and plans study in unmanned aerial systems and their use to help communities in need.
Department of Aerospace Engineering associate professor Ossama Abdelkhalik is the Iowa State University USRA representative.
