Welcome to the website of the Turbulence Simulation and Modeling Laboratory (TSML) at Iowa State University. The lab, led by Prof. Paul Durbin (durbin@iastate.edu), specializes in computational studies of transitional and turbulent flows. Lab members are engaged in developing state of the art predictive models for fully turbulent flow and for laminar to turbulent transition. Several of of these models have been implemented in commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) suites. Current research projects are on Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) closures, and on detached eddy simulations (DES) methods. High fidelity computer simulations address fundamental aspects of understanding intricacies of the flow physics of turbulent and transitional flow. Direct numerical simulations (DNS) and large eddy simulations (LES) complemented by analytical studies are used in this research. The work at TSML is performed on either in-house or national high performance computing (HPC) facilities and is funded by both governmental agencies and companies. |
